Donut holes or doughnut balls are delicious mini dessert or sweet snacks. This article has three different instant recipes of three different delicious flavors of Donut holes / Doughnut balls.

Saffron – cardamom flavor, chocolate flavor, and cinnamon flavor are three of my favorite flavors in dessert. Most of us have tried and loved chocolate flavored and cinnamon flavored donut holes or doughnuts; but saffron – cardamom flavored doughnut holes are my version of Donut holes fused with Indian dessert flavors (saffron – cardamom).

The recipes in this article do not require egg or yeast. These instant donut holes recipes require just three basic ingredients. Try these vegetarian Donut Holes / Doughnut Balls and make them your family’s favorite dessert!

What are Donut holes / Doughnut balls?

Donut is basically a type of leavened ring shaped fried dough. It is tremendously loved world wide in form of sweet snacks or dessert. It can be homemade or can be bought from bakeries, franchised places, grocery stores, etc.. Donut holes or Doughnut balls are small spherical shaped donuts that are traditionally made from the dough that is taken off from the center of the ring shaped doughnuts. Donut holes are quite small compared to donut itself. So, usually people like me prefer to eat donut holes instead of donuts to satisfy their cravings. Less calories and same taste!

The Three Key Ingredients

The three key ingredients to make instant, yeast free, and eggless donuts holes or doughnut balls are Self rising flour (all-purpose flour or Maida mixed with baking powder and salt) + granulated or powdered Sugar + Milk. You can make scrumptious donut holes from these three key ingredients. Besides these three key ingredients, you will need oil for frying and condiments or flavors of your choice. This article will show you three recipes – chocolate flavored donut holes / doughnut balls, cinnamon flavored donut holes / doughnut balls, and saffron and cardamom flavored donut holes / doughnut balls.

What is Self rising flour and how to make it at home?

Self rising flour is basically premixed all purpose flour (Maida), baking powder, and salt. It is sold in the grocery store for baking purposes. Usually for baking, we mix up the dry mix that always includes all-purpose flour (Maida), baking powder, and salt. Some times if these ingredients are not whisked or mixed properly, we do not get good results. So it is better to use self rising flour instead of mixing all these dry ingredients together.

But incase you do not have self rising flour at home, you can make it on your own. Follow the recipe below and make your self rising flour at home.

Required Ingredients to make self rising flour are –

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour (or Maida)
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/4th teaspoon of salt

Recipe for making self rising flour at home-

  • Take a deep bowl.
  • To make 1 cup of self rising flour; take 1 cup of all-purpose flour (Maida), 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4th teaspoon of salt.
  • Mix or whisk all these dry ingredients really well with a spoon, clean hand, or a whisking tool. Mix really well for at least a minute.

  • Once everything is mixed well, self rising flour is ready to use for baking or for making donut holes / doughnut balls.
